Happy Victoria Day!

Happy Victoria Day!

Vancouver, BC - This Monday, May 21st is Victoria Day which means it will be a long weekend for Canadians! Victoria Day is celebrated every year to honor Queen Victoria’s birthday. The first Victoria Day took place on May 24th, 1845 to recognize the Queen’s birthday, however, it was not officially known as Victoria Day until after the Queen’s death in 1901.

During her lifetime, Queen Victoria’s birthday celebration always occurred on May 24th regardless of what day of the week it fell. That all changed in 1952 when an amendment to the Statutes of Canada permanently set the day as the Monday immediately before May 24th which officially made it a long weekend for Canadians.

For many Canadians today, Victoria Day is better known as the May long weekend, and marks the unofficial start to the spring/summer season. It is the first weekend many people visit their cabins, plant their gardens or just get away. Although the focus of Victoria Day has shifted over the years it still remains a weekend filled with many events and celebrations for Canadians all over the country.

Protec Dental Laboratories will be closed Monday, May 21st to join in the celebrations! Whether you plan on staying in town or getting away we wish you all a safe, happy and fun-filled long weekend!
