Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day!

Vancouver, BC - Canada turns 151 years old on Sunday, July 1st! Every year on July 1st Canadians celebrate the anniversary of the enactment of the British North American Act, which today we call the Constitution Act. This act joined the three colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada to form one country called the Dominion of Canada. The enactment was commemorated on July 1, 1867, with the ringing of the bells at the Cathedral Church of St. James in Toronto. From that day on July 1st was known as Dominion Day, which was later renamed Canada Day in 1982 after the Canada Act was passed.

Although July 1st was widely celebrated by the people of Canada as the country's anniversary it was not established as a statutory holiday until May 15th, 1879. The government did not officially start hosting annual Canada Day celebrations until 1958. To this day the biggest celebration in the country is held in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, where Canadians can spend the day taking in musical performances, historical re-enactments and fireworks.

In celebration, Protec Dental Laboratories will be closed Monday, July 2nd to enjoy all of the events taking place throughout the city. We will be back and ready to work after the holiday on Tuesday, July 3rd. From all of us here at Protec, we wish you a Happy Canada Day!
